Advertising

February 4th, 2010

Advertising is restricted legislatively via the Medicinal Products (Control of Advertising) Regs 2007. Most importantly there is a restriction on the advertising of prescription medicines, obligations for adherence for over the counter (OTC) medications and rules regarding the provision of hospitality at meetings with health care professionals (hcps). The hcp group is defined as nurses, pharmacists, dentists and doctors. Members of the Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association (IPHA) by membership agree to adhere to the Code of Marketing Practice for the Pharmaceutical Industry and the Code of Standards of Advertising Practice for the Consumer Healthcare Industry. These codes reflect legislation and are based on the concept of self-regulation within the industry.
